The machines can think now. They write software, use computers and solve frontier math problems. Yet much of the economy has barely flinched. AI has gone a mile wide and an inch deep.
This is often called a diffusion problem. We see an incentives problem at its core. Agents excel where they can test their work. Much of the real economy runs on unwritten knowledge and uncertain feedback. Buying access to a model cannot close that gap alone.
Most efforts to put AI to work have the shape of the last era. We are racing towards a post-AGI world, and the businesses that diffuse this technology will not look like those of the past. Intelligence is becoming more abundant while the responsibility to turn tokens into economic value is not.
